Guidelines for List Users
Send a Message
Send a message to all list members by putting the list e-mail address in the “To:” field of the e-mail header. (Example: wipk-12@lists.dpi.wi.gov.)
Indicate the “Subject” of your e-mail in the header.
“Sign” the body of your message with your name, address or affiliation, and e-mail address. Some e-mail systems do not display this information in the header. Most e-mail systems allow you to create and save a “signature” that can be added automatically to outgoing e-mails.
Reply to a Message
Use caution when replying to list e-mail. If you want to reply to the individual and not the entire list membership, be sure the individual’s e-mail address is in the “To:” field of the header of your reply.
If you post a request for information and receive responses to you individually, rather than via the whole list, it is appropriate and appreciated to post a summary of these responses to the whole list. This provides professional awareness for all subscribers and may help avoid duplicate requests in the future.
